Borders Hide the Horizon is an in-depth study on Indigenous internationalism and Indigenous perspectives on imperialism and international relations, migration and border regimes, solidarity and movement-building, and reimagining liveable worlds. 

The project will culminate in a major Red Paper publication in Summer 2027, alongside rolling releases of related research, educational resources, and public-facing media beginning in Fall 2026. 

We invite pitches from institutionally and community-based scholars, activists and organizers, creators and artists, community helpers and knowledge keepers, and contributors who have something to say. 

We are especially interested in work connecting historical and contemporary questions of Indigenous governance and politics to specific issues in these areas: 

• migration, deportation, and border studies 
• Indigenous approaches to international relations and human rights 
• global, Third World, and Fourth World solidarities 
• mobility, kinship, and territorial relationships beyond colonial borders

• Lakota/Dakota cross-border relations 
• The Jay Treaty 
• Indigenous border crossing and mobility rights 
• Deportation and settler colonial governance

About Yellowhead Briefs 

Published twice monthly, the Yellowhead Brief features accessible, responsive, and public-facing analysis on topical issues in Canada. Briefs are typically 800–1200 words and may be argumentative, descriptive, or reflective in style. Contributors receive editorial support and writing mentorship throughout development and revision.

Please send pitches, draft ideas, or portfolio samples to info@yellowheadinstitute.org with the subject line: Red Paper Pitch, along with a short bio (100–125 words). 

Selected contributors will work collaboratively with the Yellowhead editorial team through development and editing. Honoraria are available for accepted submissions. 

Rolling publications begin Fall 2026. Full Red Paper publication: Spring 2027.
